Preparations start EDCTP IMPALA Project
July 2022
We are very proud to share that our IMPALA patient monitoring systems are implemented in our IMPALA observational study in Blantyre and Zomba, Malawi!
In the beginning of July 2022 GOAL 3 co-founder Bart and Dr. Job Calis from our partners of the AMC went to our two study hospitals, Queens Elizabeth Central Hospital Blantyre, and Zomba Central Hospital in Malawi. Together with our clinical and study partners they started training the research staff.
In the first week, the whole team which consists of research nurses, doctors, technical team, a lab team and data team came together to train on the Standard Operating Procedures. In the beginning of the week they started the training of the hospital staff on using the patient monitor. At the end of the week, they started the research study and aim to recruit the first participants in the same week.
In the IMPALA study, we are implementing 50 IMPALA patient monitors over the two hospitals, measuring 1000 children in the coming year. A big step for GOAL 3 after months of hard work from our development and study team for reaching this deadline on time! We hope that many great stories from the field in Malawi will follow in the coming months!
This project is part of the EDCTP2 program supported by the European Union.
