GOAL 3 & The African Union!
On April 23, 2025, the African Union AU), in collaboration with GOAL 3, hosted a high-level webinar under the theme “Leveraging Innovation and Collaboration to Accelerate Progress Towards AU Agenda 2063 for Women and Children.”
The event brought together representatives from African ministries of health, international development agencies, and private sector innovators to talk about this important issue - showcasing GOAL 3 as an excellent example of how digital technology can be used to transform healthcare in Africa.
Three key takeaways from the discussions:
- Political leadership is essential to successfully scale innovations and improve maternal and child health outcomes — frameworks like CARMMA Plus and the AU Digital Health Strategy provide crucial guidance.
- Digital health offers game-changing potential, but only if it goes hand in hand with investments in systems strengthening, workforce development, and service delivery (re)design.
- Collaborative models work: Public-private partnerships and co-creation with governments and communities, backed by strong evidence, are critical to achieving sustainable, scalable impact.
One clear message underscored it all: Innovation alone is not enough — scaling impact requires everyone.
